Black Beast & Little Queen creation 2024
SHARED EVENING
The Black Beast and Little Queen are two short shows that can be performed together for a shared evening.
DYPTICH : THE BLACK BEAST & LITTLE QUEEN
End of creation/resumption for these two short forms featuring female circus artists. The Black Beast, a solo based on contortion and the spine, evokes the inner struggles of a woman with a scarred body. Little Queen, a gritty, clownish satire on the clutches of love, stars Edith, a luminous character who innocently recounts her own downfall.
THE BLACK BEAST
Duration 25min – For all audiences
To be just a body. A dehumanized, contorted body.
An animal body… In this solo, written as a performative choreography,
a woman sketches out the daily battles against her pet peeves.
On the ground or on an apparatus like a column with its 24 vertebrae,
she is, like a thread that twists, ready to break at any moment. In a chiselled light,
the body and life of this woman are outlined in its wild complexity,
its fragile beauty, without ever bending.
An introspection of the being,
which allows us to glimpse the sufferings, pressures and sacrifices crossed in the extreme exercise of physical performance and surpassing oneself.
Through this portrait, the outline of our states of mind, our dreams, our traumas,
our choices, our moments of grace, our contradictions are outlined.
Love. Life.
LITTLE QUEEN
Duration 30 min – all ages 10 and up
Little Queen, a gritty, clownish satire on the clutches of love, stars Edith, a luminous character who innocently recounts her own downfall.
“Following on from The Black Beast, a solo on stage created in 2017, a performance based around contortion and the spine that evokes the inner struggles of a woman marked by her career path, I want to create a second part of a triptych of portraits of circus women.
This piece will combine acrobatic performance on a bicycle and text in an offbeat, zany tone. This portrait will feature Fleuriane Cornet, a graduate of the CNAC in 2020, with whom I hope to continue the work of transmission/insertion begun during the creation of Cycle de l’Absurde by staging the students of the 32nd promotion.”
